In January and February this year I stayed one month in a fantastic place in the Spanish Pyrenees. Gillué is a little hotel where you eat macrobiotic food and walk in the mountains, relax and meditate.

Harry (my Labrador) and I lived in a nice room. I did meet some new friends from Spain. We eat together and in day we walked to beautiful places in the mountain and we also did sightseeing tours by car to interesting, historic places in the area.

Gillué is situated in the district Huesca next to the Pyrenees and right between Barcelona on the Mediterranean coast and San Sebastian on Atlantic coast. It´s about three ours drive from both cities.

Macrobiotic food: Followers of the traditional macrobiotic approach believe that food and food quality powerfully affect health, well-being, and happiness, and that a traditional, locally based macrobiotic diet has more beneficial effects than others. The modern macrobiotic approach suggests choosing food that is less processed.

One goal of modern macrobiotics is to become sensitive to the actual effects of foods on health and well-being, rather than to follow dietary rules and regulations. Dietary guidelines, however, help in developing sensitivity and an intuitive sense for what sustains health and well-being

Some general guidelines for the Japanese-style macrobiotic diet, which is used in Gillué are the following:

  • Beans and legumes: 5–10%
  • Sea vegetables: 5%
  • Traditionally or naturally processed foods: 5–10%
  • Well-chewed whole cereal grains, especially brown rice: 40–60%
  • Miso soup: 5%
  • Vegetables: 25–30%

My food was custom made for me by the chef, with the goal to treat my cancer. I did eat about 70% whole cereal grains like brown rice and 30% vegetables, locally produced at the house. And sometimes I also had lenses or beans, to get proteins. In general the treatment made me feel very well, happy and relaxed. I lost some ”michelinas”, my leg (where I had the tumor) was very much better and not so swollena as before, so now its`s more easy to walk and ski.

A few days ago, when I came back to Sweden I did CT and PET camera on the lungs. Unfortunaly the metastasis in my lungs are growing bigger but at the moment it´s not making so much harm to me while the metastasis is not so big. But my general experience from my stay in Gillué is very positive and I´m now continuing to eat macrobiotic (not as strict as I had in Gillué) and later this year i will be back in Gillué!
